SAFARIS | CAMPS & LODGES | IMPACT

Newsletter head

For two months, we closed our doors at Saruni Samburu, Saruni Eagle View and Saruni Mara rolled up our sleeves and set to work on a transformation journey. The scaffolding has come down, the crew has packed up, the bush has settled back into its evenings and we're ready for you to come and see what's changed, whether you're returning or visiting for the first time.

Saruni Mara: Character with a Contemporary Twist

IMG_5231-HDR (1)

We've refreshed every villa at Saruni Mara, inside and out. New beds, headboards and wardrobes now anchor each room, giving every space a settled, considered feel. We've also reworked the lighting to suit the slow, golden evenings Saruni Mara is known for.

Set in one of the most scenic corners of the conservancy, we've reimagined our villas with comfort and view in equal measure. Wooden doors have given way to glass, framing the same sweeping vistas in a cleaner, more elegant way, while keeping each villa warm, private and enclosed.

And at our spa, you can unwind and restore after an early morning drive, wrapped in calm.

Saruni Samburu: Raw Landscape, Thoughtfully Framed

SS (3)

At Saruni Samburu, the changes ripple across every corner our guests move through. A striking new fireplace anchors the lounge, giving evenings a natural gathering point, while guest walkways have been given a fresh coat of paint and the curio shop now feels brighter and more inviting.

We remodeled the main lounge with new furnishings, setting the tone for the rest of the property and carrying that same fresh energy through to mealtimes. New furniture and decorative updates give the space a more considered feel, whether you're settling in for breakfast before a game drive or lingering over dinner as the light fades.

We've repainted every villa, fitted new roofing, and added an entrance canopy that offers welcome shade the moment you arrive. We've upgraded the lighting throughout too, so the warmth of the day carries softly into the evening, rather than switching off abruptly with the sun.

We've replaced the furniture throughout, choosing pieces designed for genuine rest after a full day in the bush. Beds now shift easily between twin and king configurations, ready for however you're travelling. It's a change you'll feel the moment you walk in, rooms built for you to properly unwind

Outside, the upper pool area has taken on a new life. Additional seating and shade structures now invites you to linger longer between dips, and a new bar built right at the poolside turns the space into a proper spot for slow afternoons, drink in hand, watching the horizon shift as the day cools.

Our Recap of the 2026 Migration Series

Some mornings the Mara gives you everything within the hour while others make you wait for it. This is the story of one such day from our 2026 migration season.

Two hours on the road before sunrise, a river that offered nothing for a while, bumpy stretch, and then, without warning, three crossings in a single afternoon. A lone female who lost her nerve at the water's edge. A round of applause from strangers in neighbouring vehicles when the last animal reached the far bank.

It's a reminder that the migration is a spectacle you sit with. Here's what we learned by staying.

Saruni Eagle View: Combining Charm with Modern Efficiency

Towel

At Saruni Eagle View, the changes speak to craft as much as comfort. Bespoke indigenous décor pieces now run through every guest tent, along with the dining and lounge areas, a considered nod to the culture and craftsmanship of this land, woven into the property.

The Honeymoon Tent has gained a new spa facility of its own, giving couples a private space to unwind together, away from the rest of the camp. It's the kind of addition that makes your stay intimate. The property has also grown, with new luxury guest tents joining the collection, one of which now features its own dedicated lounge area, a quiet corner to call entirely your own.

Behind the scenes, the guest kitchen has been upgraded to improve both service and functionality, ensuring the same care our guests see reaches every plate that leaves it.

At the heart of the camp, the central fireplace area has been redesigned and rebuilt entirely, now standing as a proper gathering space where guests can come together as the day winds down, stories and firelight taking over where the game drive left off.

From the Archives: Renovating to Serve You Better

Before the fireplaces were rebuilt and the villas repainted, there was another chapter of change quietly unfolding across our camps. Back in June 2024, we shared the first glimpses of Saruni Eagle View's split-level tents and Rhino's refreshed bandas.

With so much new to share this season, it felt right to look back at where it all began. Those renovations have since become part of the landscape.

Green Scene: Keeping Basecamp Wilderness Safe

Newsletter head (2)
Newsletter head (3)

This week, our Basecamp Wilderness team came together for a hands-on training on hazardous waste management. We walked through the four categories every team member should know how to recognise and handle safely:

  • Flammable — materials that ignite easily.
  • Corrosive — acids and strong bases capable of eating through metal.
  • Reactive — unstable substances that can explode, release toxic fumes, or react violently.
  • Toxic — poisons and heavy metals that harm living organisms.

Alongside the training, we carried out occupational health and safety (OHS) inspections across all departments and reviewed practical steps that keep our standards high and our camp running safely for our staff and guests.
